I currently teach with Maryland Ensemble Theatre and Parlights. For over ten years I was the Performing Arts Coordinator for the Carroll County Arts Council. I was responsible for the educational programing of the performing arts department, from development and planning, to budgeting and registration. I taught some of our classes myself and contracted local and touring arts professionals for others. I taught classes on acting, stage craft, improvisation, puppetry, and general theatre workshops to students elementary through high school aged. One of my favorite aspects was finding opportunities to engage students in non-performance aspects of creating theatre, for example creating props, choosing sound effects, and researching the background of the play. We focused on working together as an ensemble. I also went into schools for classroom workshops and production assistance. The children’s acting classes I teach revolve around storytelling and using theatrical devises to help the audience understand the story. These photos are from my time at the Carroll Arts Center.
